Full Description

An LBA pottery sherd, almost certainly from a globular urn, was found by Mr J W Stevens of Piddletrenthide on the slopes above Heave Bottom about 600 yds. West of Heave Coppice (centred SY 693974). <1>

This piece of pottery was found about 1949; the findspot indicated (on the plan) being correct. The field within which this pottery was found is now under grass. <3>

‘(ii) Late Bronze Age sherd from Piddletrenthide. Mr. J. W. Stevens of Piddletrenthide picked up a sherd of late Bronze Age pottery (D.C.M. 1950.59.1) on the slopes above Coombe Bottom, about 600 yds. W. of Heave Coppice at nat. grid SY(30)/693974. Prof. Stuart Piggot identifies the sherd as almost certainly from a L.B.A globular urn with the characteristic grooves slightly converging as they come to the lug.’
