Monument record MDO19889 - Church of the Holy Trinity, Bradpole

Former parish church of Holy Trinity, Bradpole, demolished in 1845-6, when the present church was built. The church was built in the 12th or 13th century. It appears to have been largely rebuilt during the 15th century in the Perpendicular style and consisted of a nave, chancel, and low tower on the north side of the chancel. This church lay to the south of the present church, as shown on an 1837 Map of Bradpole.

Former parish church of Holy Trinity, Bradpole, demolished in 1845-6, when the present church was built. The church was built in the 12th or 13th century, at some time before 1310, when the earliest date for an incumbent is recorded (1) (2).

The medieval church appears to have been largely rebuilt during the 15th century. Hutchins states that "It was built mostly in the Perpendicular style (probably temp. Hen. VII), and consisted of a nave, chancel, and low tower on the north side of the chancel" (1). The church was taken down in 1845-6 as it was "in a dilapidated state and totally inadequate to the wants of the population" (1).

The position of the church and the earlier churchyard, which lay to the south of the present church and churchyard, is shown on an 1837 Map of Bradpole (3).
