Summary

The site of a Bronze Age round barrow is visible as earthworks on lidar imagery on Lyscombe Hill, Piddletrenthide. It lies between the two Iron Age cross dykes described in MDO1943 and MDO1944 and is encroached on its southern side by the parish boundary between Piddle Trenthide and Cheselbourne. The barrow mound is 6m across with traces of an external ditch, it was digitally recorded from lidar imagery during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM Project.

Full Description

Mound 13 paces in diameter and 3 feet high. <1>

A. ST 73140251, A bowl barrow 10.0 m in diameter and 1.0 m high, scrub covered and undisturbed. There is no visible ditch.

Tumuli surveyed at 1:2500 on MSD. <5>

(61) Saucer-barrow ? (73000230), 35 yds. N.N.E. of (60), is covered with trees; it consists of a small mound surrounded by a well-marked ditch and an outer bank; the latter has been destroyed on the E. side by an old copse bank. Diam. of mound 18 ft., ht. 1 ft. Ditch 4 ft. across and 6 ins. deep; bank 7 ft. across and 1 ft. high.
