Full Description
A barrow group. (See Table 1.) Three other barrows mentioned (2,3 and 4) could be part of this group. (See Table 2.) <1-2>
One of the Plush Hill Group, lies over 700ft. above O.D. on the top of a broad ridge, in an area that is interrupted by many depressions that are probably old chalk pits, traces of 'Celtic' fields also occur. Has been heavily ploughed. Bowl barrow, 56ft. in diam and 3ft. high. <5>
The site of a plough-levelled Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark ring ditch 17m across on aerial photographs (NMR 1995 (8)). It is also visible as a very low earthwork mound on lidar imagery (Environment Agency Lidar 2021 (9)) and was digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
