Full Description

A large quantity of brass pins with spherical wire wound heads were observed approximately 0.75m below the surface close to the garage gates of the Mitre Inn, Lower Acreman Street during 1933. The pins were observed together with cuttings of brass strips or wire and 16th-17th century pottery (1).

It seems likely that an assemblage of material of this type was located within an unrecognised 16th-17th century pit, midden, roadside ditch or a dump of material forming part of the road make-up. It is also possible that this concetration of material is indicative of 16th-17th century pin manufacture close to the site.
