A neolithic polished stone axehead was found by a farm labourer at West Farm some time prior to 1891, when it was given to Dorset County Museum, Dorchester (accession number 1891.1.1) by Mr. Hayward of Abbotsbury. <1-2>

A very weathered Neolithic stone axe from Abbotsbury (SY 5785) is in the Dorset County Museum, Accession No. 1891.1.1. <2>

An igneous rock has been used for this axe. <3>

Mr J Hayward (deceased) farmed an extensive area of Abbotsbury known as West Farm. No further information concerning this find was obtained during field investigation. The exhibit is obviously ground but is too pitted to retain any traces of polishing. <4>
