Full Description

A mesolithic 'bullet' core was recovered from the upper levels of a grave fill during the excavation of a small trial pit at the foundations of the westernmost buttress of the north choir aisle of Christchurch priory church in April 2006.

It was of slightly reddish grey flint, measuring c. 30mm x 40mm, and displaying "narrow elongated microlith facets on all faces, struck from a well-defined corticated striking platform. It is a residual artefact in this context, but indicates the presence of early post-glacial activity in the vicinity of the site." (1)
