Keith Jarvis mentions the discovery of Roman pottery and tiles re-deposited in later levels at Christchurch Priory in a short note concerning an archaeological watching brief at Christchurch Priory during 1985. He does not make it clear, however, who made these discoveries and when.
Nevertheless, the finding of Roman pottery at the Priory may suggest the possibility that the site of the Priory was also that of an earlier Roman settlement.
