Full Description
K. Jarvis, for Poole Museums, conducted an archaeological excavation at the Staggs site, Christchurch (site X12) during 1976. The work revealed several residual sherds of Late Saxon pottery.
Finds of late Saxon pottery are relatively rare in Christchurch, despite the established historical and archaeological evidence for a late Saxon burh here. These finds may have derived from the late Saxon defences on the east side of the town, slight evidence for which was uncovered during a trial excavation on the site.
