Full Description
This possible early Roman timber building was found during excavations by Wessex Archaeology in advance of the redevelopment of the former Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester in 2000-2001.
Building G506 was represented by a single possible beamslot found at the northern edge of the excavated area of Block 1&3. Most of the area of this possible building lay outside the excavated area. It was located immediately to the north of the early Roman beamslot structure G507.
This possible building was set back from the postulated frontage of a N-S road which is projected to run just to the east of the excavated area. No evidence for its precise function was obtained, but it may have been industrial, rather than domestic in purpose.
