Full Description
Wessex Archaeological Committee conducted an excavation at the rear of the old Town Hall, High Street Christchurch, during 1981(site W8). The results were subsequently published in PDNHAS volume 105 (Davies 1983).
The excavation revealed a pit complex, running under the northern baulk at the east end of the site, that appeared to comprise a group of probably four intersecting pits (in reverse chronological order) [246, 248, 247 & 124], cutting a gully [141], and cut by a post-hole [105]. Their function is indeterminate, but the latest pit [246] dated to the 14th century.
