Full Description
K. Jarvis conducted a watching brief at Christchurch Priory, Christchurch, during 1985 during the excavation of foundations for a link building between Priory House and the Priory Church. The results were subsequently published as a short note in PDNHAS volume 107 (1).
The watching brief recorded that the contractors located a stone feature [6] at a depth of 2.9m below ground level at the bottom of a post medieval soakaway. It was not seen by the archaeologist conducting the watching brief (K. Jarvis) and it may be part of the soakaway. However, the contractors believe the stone feature to be comparable with other medieval work and may represent medieval work in situ, despite the depth
