Full Description

(SY 689912). Great and Little Mohun's Bridges carrying the Charminster road over the River Frome were ordered to be repaired in the reign of Charles I. (1)

Great Mohun's Bridge (SY 68909118) listed by DOE as an un-named bridge, 75 yards north of the A37 - Charminster road junction, has a segmental arch of brick, faced with stone between two small, roughly pointed stone arches and brick parapets. The small side spans to the south may antedate the repairs made during the reign of Charles I, but the main span of the bridge was reconstructed and widened in 1782. Little Mohun's Bridge (SY 68899128) on the borough boundary, rebuilt in 1775, is listed by DOE as an un-named bridge 200 yds north of the A37-Charminster road junction. The bridge has three segmental
arches with stone facing and rusticated voussoirs. One of the brick parapets carries a metal plate bearing the date 1835.

(Both bridges are shown but not described on OS plans). (2)
