Full Description

A collection of Iron Ages brooches, mostly from Dorchester were exhibited by Col Drew at the first winter meeting of the DNHAS for the year 1933 at the DCM on 29/3/1933. They were from the Farnham Museum and were exhibited by the kindness of Captain G. Pitt-Rivers. They have never been published.(1)

I remember two only from Dorchester. One was a lead brooch – a degenerate Halstatt and the other a Halstatt bronze brooch. They were labelled “south end of South Street” Dorchester and they were bought by Pitt Rivers at a London sale. I very much doubt the precise siting. No further information was obtained upon these finds during field investigation.(2)
