Full Description

A bronze implement that resembles a dart, arrow or borer, and a small imperfect buckle were found in Gallows Hill Dorchester. They were on display in the Dorset County Museum in 1901 in the same case and adjacent to a hook and a spout, believed to have been found in Dorchester. It is possible that all four items derive from Gallows Hill.
The possible borer is about 3.5 in. long, and 0.375 in. in greatest thickness. Nearly 2 in. consists of a point, octagonal at the upper end, round near the other. There is a flat tang leavibg a shoulder all round the upper end of the point.
The hook is nearly 2.5 in. long and unbarbed, suggesting that it is not a fish hook. It may have served for hooking meat out of a saucepan.
The spout appears to have become unsoldered from the jug to which it belonged. It is rudely modelled to suggest rather than represent a dog's head with the spout-end in its mouth.
