Full Description

Several encaustic tiles found in Dorchester were presented to the County Museum by Mr. Hogg and Mr. Bushrod prior to 1901. Moule says they were found on the site of the Franciscan Frairy. 'One fragment has its pattern in blue, a rarity in England, so much so that doubt about this tile being found here has been felt; but Mr. Bushrod assured the writer that he himself found it in Orchard Street. These tiles are mounted on boards, which hang on one of the pillars in the museum.' (1)
