(Area SY 689910) Eglesham Meadow. Here in the thirties or early forties soil was carted away to level the south side of the meadow and to make the Stratton Road. During the digging two fine palstaves and a pair of heavy bronze bracelets were found. Mens bones were found with them, it is believed. These bronzes are in the museum. <2>

Two LBA Bronze rings and Palstaves in Dorset Co Museum from Eglesham Meadow. One was a fully developed palstave, having well projecting wings, deep shoulders, and it has a ring or ear. This palstave is ornamented with a 'rat's tail' below the shoulder. Much oxidised. The other was much the same, but its wings project less and are longer. It's ring or ear is perfect. Besides a slight ridge from the shoulder to the bevel of the cutting edge (rat's tail) it has a hollow on each side of the upper part of that ridge. Much oxidised. <1-3>

Neither the owners nor the tenants of the land knew the field indicated as Englesham Meadows. Tithe maps were of no assistance.
The field is grass covered and lies in a near flood-plain. <4>
