Full Description

A Roman intaglio of Mars standing towards the left wearing a tunic and holding a spear in his right hand and shield in his left was found somewhere in Colliton Park, Dorchester, although the exact details of its discovery are now lost. It is in glass paste imitating nicolo with upper light blue surface on darker ground. The dimensions are 16mm x 11.5mm. It appears to have been manufactured from the same original die as an example from Sussex which was found on a ring dated to the 3rd century AD.
