Full Description

A Roman altar stone was recovered during building works at County Hall, Colliton Park in 1937. The base is missing but the assumption from the proportions of the surviving stone, that the altar would originally have been c.32cm high. The altar is thought to have been carved from Quarr Stone or Bembridge Limestone which is quarried on the Isle of White.
