Summary

A small piece of inlaid tile was found in the allotments north of Frome Terrace. The small circular design is found with a church at Wimborne Minster and at Amesbury Abbey. The design is datable to the early 14th century and this fragment may well have come from Dorchester Friary.

Full Description

A small piece of inlaid tile was found in the allotments north of Frome Terrace (SY69459095). The small circular design, which was obtained by using a special block, is found with a church at Wimborne Minster and at Amesbury Abbey. The design is not recorded from Dorchester Friary but belongs to a group of tiles known from that site and from elsewhere in Dorset and Wiltshire. The group is datable to the early 14th century and this fragment may well have come from the Friary.
