Full Description

SY689910. Several Romano-British inhumations were found close to the bottom of Glyde Path Hill in chalk cut graves in 1841 while levelling a meadow between the River Frome and North Walk, evidently Northernhay. A cast bronze collar of the Late Iron Age was found around the neck of one of the skeletons. It is one of a group of metal collars which point to the existence of a small local school of metal-workers in the west of England. Near another skeleton were three small undecorated jars, one of which was `of the Graeco-Roman' character. <1-4>
