Monument record MDO18796 - Merchant's Garage, High West Street, Dorchester; Early Roman timber building 229

The slight remains of a possible early Roman timber beam slot building were found during observations and recording at the site of the former Merchant’s Garage, High East Street, Dorchester in 1983. The only surviving remains comprised an L-shaped slot marking the SE corner. No floor levels survived and no other features could be associated with this possible structure. It is probably 1st century AD in date.

The only surviving remains comprised an L-shaped slot marking the SE corner. No floor levels survived and no other features could be associated with this possible structure. It is probably 1st century AD in date. It was found to the north of another, possibly contemporary, beam slot structure, Building 209/212.
