Summary

A bowl barrow reported in 1970 as being around 48 feet by 54 feet in size, with a mound around 1½ feet high is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 2005. The barrow's oval shape is thought to be due to ploughing.

Full Description

SY 76038375. An oval shaped bowl barrow about 48ft by 54ft, possibly due to ploughing, and 1.5ft high; situated on the south side of Moigns Down. <2> <4>

'A' - SY 76038374. In pasture, on steep south-facing slope. Diameter 14.0m, height 0.2m - 1.7m. No visible ditch. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <5>

The Bronze Age bowl barrow described <4> is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s on Moigns Down, Owermoigne. The barrow is sub-circular in shape and measures approximately 11 m in diameter. <1> It is visible as a low earthwork on aerial photographs of 2005. <7> This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
