Full Description

Infant Burial 6 was found under the west partition wall in Building IV at Colliton Park during excavations in 1937-8 (1) (2). It was buried in a scoop beneath the threshold and was contracted on its left side, with the head to the west. A 3rd-4th century Black-burnished ware jar was found near-by, but it is unclear whether associated.

‘(215) … (e) Inhumation of an infant under the W. partition wall of building (185), Colliton Park (Fig. p. 560). The body, contracted on its left side, lay E. to W. (head), and was evidently in the doorway, so burial need not have been earlier than the 3rd or 4th-century occupation; a black-burnished jar (1937.70) with lattice decoration not earlier than c. 250 was near by.
