Monument record MDO18572 - Poundbury Pipeline, Dorchester; Roman grave 222

Grave 222 was one of a number of Roman graves revealed during a watching brief by Wessex Archaeology on a pipeline running through the industrial estates to the east of Poundbury Camp in 1986. The chalk-cut grave was aligned NE-SW and contained the extended inhumation of an adult, with the head to the northeast. Hobnails were found with this burial. This burial was one of the outlying graves to the main Late Roman cemetery at Poundbury.

The chalk-cut grave was aligned NE-SW and contained the extended inhumation of an adult, with the head to the northeast. Hobnails were found with this burial.

This burial was one of the outlying graves to the main Late Roman cemetery at Poundbury 5).
