Full Description

‘Compton House. An icehouse is shown on sheet 5 of the 1930 edition of the 6in. series ordnance survey map. It is situated in the park close to the house. Compton House was badly damaged by fire in 1827 and was largely rebuilt in the mid-19th century. It has however some outbuildings of the 18th century including a walled garden. There is no evidence so far as the writer knows which gives any clue to the age of the icehouse, but it is most likely contemporary with the rest of the buildings.’
