Summary

A stone-lined well was found during the digging of a new sewer along the southern end of Charles Street in 1990 and recorded by Wessex Archaeology. The well had a lining of rough unmortared sandstone blocks set in a chalk rubble filled construction trench.

A stone-lined well was found during the digging of a new sewer along the southern end of Charles Street in 1990 and recorded by Wessex Archaeology. The well had an internal diameter of 1m and had a lining of rough unmortared sandstone blocks set in a chalk rubble filled construction trench.
