Full Description
A chalk floor, apparently of Roman date, was exposed during the construction of an annexe to the Dorset County Hospital in 1949 and recorded by R. A. H. Farrar. The chalk floor was found in the angle between the front of the main hospital building an the south wing. The floor was exposed at a depth of about 2.1m (7ft). Part of a Roman quern was found near by (1). This floor was possibly part of a building which fronted on to the N-S Roman street which was found to the west.
