Summary

A single Roman ditch was found during a watching brief carried out by Wessex Archaeology in 1997 during works in Colliton Street, Dorchester. This ditch was aligned roughly NNW-SSE and contained a small quantity of Roman pottery dated to the 2nd-4th centuries AD.

Full Description

A single steep-sided Roman ditch was found during a watching brief carried out by Wessex Archaeology in 1997 during works in Colliton Street, Dorchester. This ditch was aligned roughly NNW-SSE and was filled with dark brown silty loam soil with abundant chalk pieces and contained a small quantity of Roman Black burnished ware pottery and a single sherd of Oxfordshire colour-coated ware dating to the 4th century AD.
