Full Description
A Roman coin of Constantine II as Caesar was found by D. Rose in 1957 at St. George's Road, Fordington. Farrar number 8 (1958) described as a copper alloy coin 18mm in diam. Obverse: CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C, laur. Bust cuir. 1., holding globe surmounted by Victory. Reverse: BEATA TRANQVILLITAS, Altar incr. VOTIS XX surmounted by globe and 3 stars. Mint: PTR. (1)
The location description for this find is very vague, St. George's Road being very long, the mapped location is close to the Fordington end of St.George's Road, in the middle of the street (although it is likely to have been found in a back garden). However, it is possible that the coin came from near the eastern end of St.George's road where it passes to the north of the Came View Estate where Roman burials have been found.
