Monument record MDO18188 - Maiden Castle First School (Prince of Wales First School): Late Iron Age Four-post Structure 517

A square four-post structure immediately north of the courtyard within Late Iron Age Enclosure 1, was exposed during the 1993 excavations at Maiden Castle First School undertaken by AC archaeology. It probably represents the remains of an above-ground store. It was not excavated.

The 1993 excavations undertaken by AC archaeology on the Maiden Castle First School site (now the Prince of Wales First School), revealed a square four post setting, immediately north of courtyard 511, within Late Iron Age enclosure 1.

Structure 517 was formed by four postholes forming a square setting about 1.5m across. It lay immediately east of structure 515 and impinged on the projected south side of roundhouse 512. No relationship between this structure and the round house survived. It is likely to be the remains of an above-ground store. It was not excavated and no dating material was recovered.
