Full Description

Found in Trench11 during the evaluation excavations undertaken by AC archaeology in June 2004 at Red Cow Farm, St George's Road, Dorchester (1).Two parallel ditches 2m apart and oriented WNW-ESE were found at the southern end of this trench. The ditches were 0.6m and 0.8m wide and 0.23m deep with rounded profiles. They were filled with dark greyish-brown soil and contained some 12-14th century pottery, animal bone, worked flint, etc. The southern ditch had a squared terminal to the east. It is likely that these ditches represent a recutting or redefining of a single boundary, probably part of a medieval field boundary.
