Monument record MDO18164 - Poundbury Depot, Poundbury West Industrial Estate: Bronze Age Ditch 11

A single ditch aligned roughly east-west was found during the 2005 evaluation by AC archaeology at Poundbury Depot, Poundbury West Industrial Estate, Dorchester. The ditch produced a small quantity of Early/Middle Bronze Age pottery, worked flint and and animal bone. It is probably part of a Bronze Age field boundary system

A single ditch aligned roughly E-W found during the evaluation by AC archaeology in 2005 of West Dorset District Council's Poundbury Depot, Poundbury West Industrial Estate, Dorchester.

The ditch [Ditch 11] was 1.2m wide and 0.55m deep with moderate-steep sloping sides and a flat base. It was filled with three layers of clayey prehistoric soils which contained a small assemblage of worked flint and Portland chert, including a blade and a scraper, a small quantity of sheep and cattle bone, and deer antler. A small quantity of sherds of Early/Middle Bronze Age bucket urn (probably part of a single vessel) was found in the upper fill.

This ditch is likely to form part of the extensive Bronze Age boundary ditch system discovered to the north and west of this site.
