Full Description
A series of low earthworks in the field south of St George's Road and east of Smoky Hole Lane. These earthworks comprise a linear earthwork running NE-SW up and down the slope about 40m to the west of the 1987 excavations at St George's Road. Three lynchets appear to be associated with this earthwork and are aligned at right angles to it. Two survive on the western side and one on the eastern side of the linear earthwork.
These earthworks are on the same alignment as the NW-SE linear field system found during the excavations at St George's Road by Wessex Archaeology in 1987. The earthworks have been interpreted as being a further part of the same field system, which from the excavation evidence appears to have silted up in the 14th century.
