Summary

Second World War anti tank obstacle comprising a line of at least 18 anti tank blocks to the north of The Quarr, Maiden Newton. The blocks are visible as structures on aerial photographs taken in 1947 and were digitally plotted during the Upper Frome and Sydling Valleys AIM project. Constructed in 1940-41, each block sits on a 12 inch thick concrete base. A field visit in 1997 found the structures to be in good condition.

Full Description

1. Anti-Tank blocks situated between the disused railway line and Cattistock road on the eastern bank of the River Frome.
2. Constructed of conglomerate cencrete and positioned on a 12 inch thick concrete base.
3. Dimensions:
42 inch square with apex
4ft between each block
Constructed in 6 inch wide bands
4ft above ground level
