Full Description

North Bowood seems to be the Bovewood of Domesday which then belonged to the Bp of Salisbury. It was formerly a manor; in 1316 Wm de Vernay was returned as lord of Bouewood. A family taking the name of Bowood owned the property in the time of Rich II when it passed to the family of Hussey until the reign of Queen Mary. Hence it became part of the estate of Gollop, of Strode. In a field called Watt's Hays, on this esate, the foundations of houses are plainly visible, and a few years since a font was discovered, probably on the site of the chapel which formerly stood in this hamlet. (Shipp and Hodson, 1863)

Some platforms and banks visible on aerial photographs taken by the RAF in 1947.

An irregular grass covered terrace at the published position suggest that a few small buildings may once have existed there. No traces of stonework could be found.
