Full Description

The Manor House at Steeple, of two storeys with attics, has walls of coursed rubble and stone slated roofs.

It was built circa 1600 to a simple rectangular plan, and enlarged in the 17th century by the addition of a south-east wing and a projection in the angle so formed. A tablet on the north-west front, bearing the date 1698, probably marks the remodelling of the building by the Clavells. Soon afterwards the same family added a north wing. Further extensions to the north-east are modern. <2>
