Full Description

An elaborate series of sub-parallel hollow-ways climbs eastwards up Dogbury Hill from Dogbury Gates (ST 656053) and pass through Dogbury Camp (ST 60 NE 10) to the ridgeway which follows the east watershed of the Cerne Valley. Now partly ploughed down. <1>

A single hollow-way extends from Dogbury Gate to the summit of Dogbury Hill. At its commencement, the hollow-way is over 3.0m in depth but progressively becomes more shallow as the hilltop is gained. A two-metre wide metalled farm track occupies the hollow-way, and on emerging from it continues unmetalled across Dogbury Camp, cutting a way through the defences on the south east side. Old chalk pits on the north east or remains of strip lynchets on the south west may have been mistaken for other hollow-ways for no others were found. <2>
