‘(iii) Iron Age C (?) and Romano-British. Between 1947 and 1950 Capt. Cobham has noted sherds of Romano-British coarse ware, including flat-rimmed ‘pie-dishes’ and the 3rd or 4th century flanged ditshes, also a bead rim of Iron Age C (Durotrigian) ancestry, at the S. end of the plantation known as The Nursery on the W. bank of the Brit (ST 477008). In the S. corner of the adjacent field to the W., the late Col Drew noted (on the 6-in. O.S. map in the Museum) a La Tène I brooch found in 1945. This has been lost sight of, but Capt. Cobham tells me he believes it was found in a fox-earth by some children.’
