Monument record MDO1635 - Chapel of St Mary, Marshwood Castle

Summary
In 1839 the walls of a building reported as being around twenty four feet wide were uncovered within the enclosure of Marshwood Castle. These have been interpreted as the remains of the Chapel of St Mary which fell into ruin in the seventeenth century.

Full Description
In the NW angle of the enclosure [SY 40389775] are traces of the walls, uncovered in 1839 of the former Chapel of St Mary which seems to have been a building some 24' wide: it became ruined in the 17th century. [The siting shown on the accompanying plan disagrees with that given by the Ordnance Survey]. <2>
