Summary

Wareham and Purbeck Union Workhouse built in 1836 by Carter and Hyde, and also known as the Poole Poor Law Institution. The building has walls of colourwashed Flemish bond brick with hipped Welsh slate roofs and brick chimney stacks.

Full Description

Wareham and Purbeck Union Workhouse was built in 1836 to designs by Owen Browne Carter and H Hyde. The building has a cross-plan and is built of red brick, now painted cream, with hipped slate roofs. An isolation block was added in 1874. The buildings are now in use as Christmas Close Hospital. <1>
