Full Description
Lynchets on a western slope, half a mile north of the church form two terraces. <1>
Md type cultivation terraces with lynchets, average 3.0m high, follow the contours of a steep hill. Under grass. See Air photo CPE/UK/1974/3383. <2>
Medieval strip lynchets are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery on a west facing slope to the north east of Maiden Newton <3>. They run roughly north south and are immediately adjacent to, and may have reused some of the boundaries associated with, the prehistoric field system described in MDO679. The site was digitally plotted during the Upper Frome and Sydling Valley AIM project.
