Monument record MDO1584 - Cement Works, Monmouth Beach, Lyme Regis

Cement Works, including several lime kilns recorded on the Ordnance Survey map of 1885. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who could find no trace of the kiln structure. Cement works established about 1865 and enlarged in about 1901. It closed in 1914 and was demolished in 1936.

A cement works was built at the back of Monmouth Beach, Lyme Regis in about 1865, for converting the local lias rock into cement. It was enlarged in about 1901. The factory closed in 1914 because of World War I and never reopened. It was demolished in 1936. (1) (2)
