Full Description

A Non-Conformist Chapel, dated to circa 1897. The architect was FW Lacey, the Borough Engineer. It followed the usual pattern of Church of England and Non-Conformist Chapels linked by a central former porch, and this example had a good Rayonnant style spire. The spire springs from a gabled arcade with pinnacles. The three stage tower has pierced parapets and corner finials and an unusual combination of diagonal and corner buttresses. In plan, the chapel is not symmetrical, with gable and lancet triplet to the right hand chapel; there is a short link passage to the left hand chapel; an angled bay the the north east. The chapel was constructed of rough-faced rubble and was decorated with ashlar quoins and dressings, with tiled roofs. The spire was constructed of Portland stone. It is a Grade II listed building. See SZ 19 SW 160 for the related cemetery record. <1>
