Listed Building record MDO15106 - Tudor Rose (formerly George Pike Hardware), Long Street, Sherborne

A late medieval timber-framed building with a stone ashlar front and a new plain tile roof. The timber-framed structure is thought to have extended further east. A 19th-century shop front has been inserted. Surviving features of the interior are reported to include moulded ceiling beams with carved bosses and stone fireplaces. During restoration in 1962 a mural dating to around AD 1500 and depicting an unknown bishop was uncovered on a timber-framed partition on the ground floor. The mural was restored and re-hung close to its original position. At one time this building was part of the Castle Tavern.

Tudor Rose: A Late Medieval timber-framed building with a 2-storey rough ashlar front to street. A mural of an unknown bishop, dateable to c. 1500, was discovered during restoration work in 1962. Grade II*. (1-2)
