Listed Building record MDO14789 - Bridge House, High Street, Yetminster

A house thought to have been built around the middle of the seventeenth century, and which may have started life as an open hall house. The building has walls of rubble stone and a thatched roof with brick chimney stacks. Surviving features of the interior are reported to include fire places, one with a bread oven, and chamfered ceiling beams. In the roof re-used smoke-blackened timbers suggest that the building may have been created through reconstruction of an earlier house.

‘The following monuments, unless otherwise described, are of the 17th century and of two storeys; the walls are of rubble and the roofs are thatched or covered with modern materials. Some of the buildings have exposed ceiling-beams and original fireplaces. … (23) House, 80 yards E. of (22), retains some original stone-mullioned windows with labels; the S. doorway has a moulded oak frame.’
