‘A Romano-British Occupation Site at Coombe, Litton Cheney
West of the road from the A35 at SY 536916 a Chalk spur with underlying Eggardon Grit and Greensand juts southward from the main ridge. The flattish top of the spur shows an area of dark earth associated with samian and Romano-British coarse pottery as well as much burnt limestone debris. The site, with its adjacent spring, resembles that a Pins Knoll on the same contour, about a kilometre to the south-east. Limestone is not local to either site and was brought for building purposes from the Jurassic south side of the Bride Valley.’
