Summary

A pit disturbed during groundworks for a new reservoir in July 1965. The site was visited by Jack Bailey who reported that the pit was around nine feet in diameter and roughly the same depth; Mr Bailey felt that lack of care in construction of the pit indicated that it was dug only for the purpose of disposing of building debris and had no previous use. The filling of the pit contained pieces of faced building stone, fragments of clay and stone roof tiles, and Romano-British coarse pottery. The skeleton of a dog was also seen; most had been disturbed by machinery, but a dog mandible remained at the bottome of the pit.
