Summary

A farmhouse built in the sixteenth century with extensive seventeenth-century additions, and some twentieth-century additions and alterations.The building has walls of stone and stone-slate covered roofs.

Full Description

Corton Farm house is of two storeys with attics, built of squared rubble with slated roofs. It dates from the 16th century, enlarged in the 17th century by the addition of three winds, and retains 16th and 17th century stone-mullioned windows. The interior fittings are largely early 19th century, but there is some original linenfold panelling. <1> <4>

At SY 63688545 is a square stone-built dove-cote with sides of 5 metres and an arched ashlar doorway. It is well preserved, although the modern roof is decayed. <2>

Corton Farm (name confirmed) is a nice 16/17th century survival. The contemporary dovecote is roofless and in a very poor state. <5>

Detached Farmhouse, former manor farm. C16 features with extensive C17 additions and C20 alterations. Dressed stone walls. Slate and stone slate roofs with stone gable-copings and scroll kneelers. C17 stone stack rebuilt at north gable end, C20 stack at north rear wing gable-end. Original range, running north and south with later C17 additions to the east, at north and south ends.
Space between rear ranges subsequently filled in. 2 storeys with attics. 3 windows to the west elevation, 2 at south end are 3-light stone mullions with round heads, moulded jambs and framing C16. 5-light stone mullion to first floor, C16. Northern end of same elevation has 4-light (ground) and 3-light stone mullions, straight-chamfered jambs. Ground floor window with a label. Front door, on north wall, rear wing, 2-leaf, C20 with multi-glass panels. C20 porch with sleeper stone walls and glazed panel sides, pitched slate roof over. North wing has one set of 3-light stone mullions, straight-chamfered, C17, on north side, and on south side. Wooden casements. South wing has 2-light mullions in gable end wall. South wall of house rebuilt C20, after south
range removed in 1963. Interior: very largely modernised, fireplace lintel dated 1684 is a re-used doorhead from derelict Corton cottages. <6>
