Full Description

ST 86791441 'The Chantry', a three storeyed house with attics. It has walls of banded flint and ashlar and stone-slated roofs, and dates from the first half of the 17th century. <3>

'The Chantry' is in a good state of preservation. The name appears to be modern. <2>

'The Chantry' (name confirmed) is a private house, as described by the RCHM <3>. It was formerly a farmhouse, known as Bay House Farm <6.1> and the modern name has no significance. It is of local importance. <5>

Bay House Farmhouse, 50 yds south of the church is a 16th century flint, brick and stone-tiled building with a south elevation of three storeys and a north elevation of two storeys. The house has two diagonal brick chimney stacks and a three storeyed porch with a gabled finish. The west wing is probably 19th century. Grade 2*. <1>

'(7) THE CHANTRY (86791441), house 50 yds. S.W. of (1), is of three storeys with attics and has walls of banded flint and ashlar, with chamfered plinths and ashlar dressings, and stone-slated roofs. The house dates from the first half of the 17th century.'
